The popular nickname
for the 1446 is the
'Chris Isaak Model'
because of a popular promo picture with
Chris hugging a nice 1446, his band is also named 'Silvertone,'
and he's been know to strum
one onstage and in videos.
Elvis Costello and
Hubert Sumlin are partial to the 1446 as
well.

The 1446 was
made by our friends at Harmony, and began life as a Bigsby-equipped
replacement for the popular 1384/5/1427. In fact, the first year of its life
(F/W '61-F/W '62), it sported the same 'P' series pickups as the Espanada-derived Silvertone. The
1446 we know and love though, is the model that became available in S/S '63,
with the unusual-shaped pickup bezels holding onto those famous
Gibson-made (!)
mini-humbuckers. With the retirement of the 1446 and its stagemates the 1454 and
the 1439, the reign of single-cutaway hollowbody electric Silvertones came to and
end.
