The 1483 was a fine, straightforward bass amplifier. It was listed in the Spring/Summer 1965 catalog simply as "The Bass Amplifier." With its no-frills tube-powered 23 watts, it's been frequently pressed into guitar service by many top strummers of recent years. Peter Buck of R.E.M. has used one in his backline for years, and the trend continues today, with bands like Vampire Weekend, Rilo Kiley and others using the the reliable, compact amp for six-string duties.
For much of its life, the 1483 was paired with the sleek black Dano-built 1444, the last 'U' style-bodied instrument offered by Sears. Towards the end of its run, the pair was separated as the 'dolphin nose' bass was retired, and the 1442 and 1443 solidbodies took over the Silvertone bottom line.
