Silvertone archtops enjoyed great popularity over the years,
from the pre-Silvertone 'Supertone' guitar family of the early part of the
century, right on through into the 70s.
The 612 was part of this family, unique for sporting the last 'block' type fret
markers on a natural finished acoustic f-hole.

The 612 was introduced in the Fall/Winter 1962 catalog (preceded in
features and price by the 623, last seen in S/S '62), and disappeared quickly,
with its last appearance in the Spring/Summer '63 catalog.
The Harmony-built 612's mark of distinction was the nice block fret markers (also shared
for a time by the 623), which were never again
seen on a Silvertone 'natural' finished acoustic f-hole after this model. The
black-lacquered f-holed 658 carried the block marker tradition through 1965,
then were replaced by dots in '66.
