You just have to break out of the tobacco-burst
and blonde finish mode every now and again, so we have the Kentucky Blue, the
funky red 616 and this jet-black racing striped arched guitar. It's
just bad to the bone... the outlaw guitar! Put on your leather jacket and
break some strings! If Johnny Ramone played acoustic, I bet this would be the
one!

The 658 was introduced in 1962, just as the 653
'Kentucky Blue' was exiting the stage. Gotta keep a cool paint job guitar in the
catalog, so here comes the 658, ready to rock with its jet black good looks,
snazzy block fret markers and cool racing stripes. The paint job covered the
3-ply laminate, so the plywood could look less than perfect, but the
appointments to the guitar made (and make) it a desirable model.
Block neck markers changed to dot markers in 1966, so use this aid when dating
your 658.
